About Us

Learn how the Schroer Foundation honors a lifelong educator by funding college scholarships for outstanding New Mexico high school seniors.

Schroer Foundation » About

The Schroer Foundation was established in the fall of 2022 to honor the life and legacy of Phil Schroer, a beloved educator, coach, mentor, and community leader whose impact spanned more than four decades.

Phil began his career in Indiana, where he taught and coached at multiple high schools before relocating with his family to New Mexico in 1983. There, he served in a variety of influential roles at Robertson High School and Cibola High School in Albuquerque, including head boys’ basketball coach, Athletic Director, and Dean of Students. Through each position, Phil remained deeply committed to the academic, athletic, and personal development of his students.

For over 40 years, Phil inspired thousands of students both in the classroom and on the court with his tireless encouragement, deep sense of fairness, and belief in their potential.

He understood the barriers many students faced in accessing higher education, particularly financial, and worked hard to help them overcome those challenges.

Following his passing, Phil’s family and loved ones founded the Schroer Foundation to continue the work he held most dear: supporting students. By awarding one-year college scholarships to deserving New Mexico high school seniors, the Foundation ensures that Phil’s legacy lives on in the futures he continues to shape.
